John Leslie Art Prize Finalist: Min-Woo Bang, 'Orderly Chaos'
News

We are incredibly proud and excited for our three well deserved John Leslie Art Prize Finalists. To familiarise you with their works in the lead up to the prize, we have asked each artist to write a small piece about their practice, and their piece that has been selected.

Min-Woo Bang is a formidable painter. Bang was born in Seoul, Korea in 1971. Before migrating to Australia he studied for 3 years in a high school specializing in visual arts education. Min-Woo gained a Diploma of Fine Arts from National Art School (1993) and graduated from Sydney College of the Arts, Sydney University, BVA (Hon) and MVA(1994~1999).

"The sky is a metaphor for human emotion and mood. And the landscape’s language of expression, via the representation of clouds and subtle shifts in light, conveys a deeply personal and intimate response to my existence."

This work – ‘Orderly Chaos’ was exhibited most recently in Bang’s recent and successful ‘Chaotic Order’ solo exhibition at Manyung Gallery Malvern in November of 2019.
