"This is a beautiful and delicate yellow ground famille rose ‘Magpie and Prunus’ Bowl has the mark of the Guangxu period (1875 - 1908). It was auctioned by Sotheby's in March 2024 and fetched $11,430 USD. The side of the bowl we see here does not show the magpie pair, only the prunus blossoms and branches, The Spring blossoms grow out of the bowl as well and are the perfect place for a little Silver Eye to land and search for tasty morsels.
We often see Silver Eyes in our Australian country garden. They like to hop around in the grass in groups searching for seeds and tiny insects. They also love to bath in our bird bath around midday where they play and splash and then fly into a nearby Loquat tree to hide safely. Their yellow green feathers blend in with grass and trees but the bright white circle around their eyes catches the sun and flashes brightly."
