Liam Waldie is an emerging Artist based on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. His works primarily deals with the landscape often depicting where the ocean meets the land, or winding roads toward endless horizons. Waldie’s current body of work ‘Remembered Landscapes’ represents the Australian landscape through a contemporary interpretation of impressionism and surrealism, recalling personal memories of time and place and selecting recognisable landforms in dreamlike mindscapes. Windows appear hidden in arbitrary places within his landscapes offering an escape from where we are or where we are going.
“I am interested in how we as humans experience a place differently. We can visit the same place, same time of day and look at the same thing in front of us, yet we will often take in a completely different view, or remember a completely different moment. I feel that the experience of a painting is similar to this, what you recognise or what you see will spark a different thought or memory in the viewer.”
Waldie works from his studio at Southern Buoy Studios, Mornington and is represented by Manyung Galleries, Victoria, and Paper Pear Gallery, NSW. He has exhibited in group shows, commissioned artwork and is in private collections across Australia and overseas. He lives in Mount Martha with his partner Jaime, their children Tex Jones, Indie Mae, and Australian Bulldog, Earl.
