Gallery Manager, Michelle Ward-Tzoulias, beautifully summed it up: "It was a wonderful evening at Strathmore showcasing the many talents of the local school's senior art students. A lot of pride and emotion set the scene, and this is just the beginning of an ongoing relationship to support up-and-coming student artists."
Manyung Gallery Strathmore has been a part of Moonee Valley for about 2 years now, serving the art-loving community here in the inner north-west. Last night, we had the pleasure of hosting students from the following schools: St Bernards, Ivanhoe Grammar, Essendon Keilor College, St Columbas, Strathmore Secondary College, and Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School.
And next year, we hope to welcome entrants from Lowther Hall, Parade College, Our Lady of Mercy College, Haileybury City, and MacRobertson Girls.
This year, we presented four prizes in the form of art vouchers.
First prize, went to Frankie Dawson from PEGS for her captivating self-portrait. A well centred piece that picks up graduating shadows and is finished well.
The first runner-up, Saf Abdullah, wowed us with a stunning etching and watercolour of St. Paul's Cathedral in Melbourne.
The second runner-up, Dinithi Devendra, depicted a subject that many of us can relate to. Titled ‘Bus Stop’. This acrylic on board, is a cleanly presented work with some notable definition of characters.
Lastly, our school award, was proudly presented to the art department of Penleigh and Essendon Grammar for their outstanding engagement and remarkable artworks.
A heartfelt congratulations to all the talented entrants, dedicated teachers, and supportive schools. Thank you for being a part of this wonderful event with us, we feel very honoured to be part of your artistic community!
