Brooke van Ruiswyk, an emerging force in the art world based in Launceston, Tasmania, has garnered recognition for her profound exploration of the Tasmanian landscape, rooted in her family's farming heritage spanning generations. Her delicate yet powerful paintings, crafted meticulously with oil on canvas, beckon viewers to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of textures and hues that define her evocative works.
In this exhibition, van Ruiswyk invites us to explore the essence of home and belonging through her unique perspective.
"There are places that never leave our memory because they still feel like home. The hills, the trees, and the weather patterns stay etched in our minds. These paintings are a recreation of my memories; for me they stir a sentimentality for the past by evoking a sense of nostalgia. Each painting commences life as a digital collage, constructed from photographs that I have collected over the years. Most are fictitious constructs based on my past reality, and I seek comfort in the simplicity and familiarity presented in these images." - Brooke van Ruiswyk
Van Ruiswyk's artistic journey has been marked by notable achievements, including being named a finalist for prestigious awards such as the Glover Prize in 2023/24, the Lethbridge 20000 Award in 2022/23, and the Henry Jones Art Award in 2022/23. These accolades underscore her growing influence and acclaim within the artistic community, as she continues to captivate audiences with her singular vision.
