This new collection of paintings explores the abstract pattern work we find in the shadows and reflections set within the inner-city streets of Melbourne. The work draws on current and historical imagery, and sometimes combines the two.
Ralf’s paintings utilize the one-point perspective to produce the illusion of depth with flat stencilled areas of colour. This process creates a slightly altered version of familiar vistas, to remind us that we often have a choice in how to look at the world around us; seeing can be an act of creation instead of mere perception.
