In her latest collection of paintings, Nat Ward has drawn inspiration from her home surroundings near the Nail Can Hill Reserve and Horseshoe Lagoon, which is connected to the Murray River, in Albury.
Having spent time hiking in the hills, and in the summer swimming in the river, Nat has developed a deep connection to this landscape. This exhibition is based on the interesting contrasts between the bursts of wildflowers and wattles next to the colours and forms of the gums. This contrast, Ward describes as “an ever-changing dynamic during the different seasons”. She has aimed to “produce a painting that is nuanced and perhaps curious which will engage the viewer to ponder a landscape that is familiar”.
Nat Ward was recognised as a 2022 Finalist in the Hadley Art Prize, Lethbridge Small Scale Prize as well as a 2021 Finalist, KAAF Art Prize Sydney and 2021 Finalist in the Geelong Contemporary Art Prize.
