Ralf Kempken
'Pattern Recognition'

Manyung Gallery Virtual Exhibition

8 August - 25 August, 2020

Ralf Kempken

Ralf Kempken's newest series of works, 'Pattern Recognition', explores the abstract patternwork found in the shadows and reflections within Melbourne's inner city streets, parks and gardens. Ralf's art regularly draws on current and historical imagery, sometimes combining the two.

Ralf creates a unique urban perspective of the landscape in his artwork, often creating secondary patterns by painting a mirror image, and then adding the correct orientation on top. Most of his paintings utilize the one point perspective to produce the illusion of depth with flat stenciled areas of colour.

"The intention is to slightly alter familiar vistas to remind us we often have a choice in how we look at the world around us."
