"I often work up small oil paintings to get me started on a new series. I think it is the paring back of simple shapes and working out a colour palette in miniature that helps my brain to get in the groove for larger works. I hand-cut and primed these little birch panels, deliberately wonky! as I saw a small collection of urban scenes and views from the local laneways around Lithgow near my home near the Blue Mountains."
