Ian Bell Biography

With an engineering background Ian Has worked in a variety of fields including shipbuilding, opal cutting and at ski resorts. His creative outlet prior to sculpture/ woodcarving was painting and learnt to paint watercolour for many years with Tony Smibert (Contemporary Tasmanian watercolourist).

He initially learnt woodturning and furniture design in Tasmania (Associate diploma art craft and design) 1995 – 96. Creative woodcarving syllabus, Sturt school for wood, 2001.

Ian currently lives and works from his home Studio/workshop on the south coast of NSW. His sculptural work can be found in Galleries and collections here in Australia and Overseas.
