Katie Firth is an emerging Australian artist based in Sydney. Her subject matter is her observations of her every day, such as the angle of the light falling on an object or the unexpectant horizon of a suburban street scape. Katie favours emphasised texture, exaggerated palette and a focus on structure.
She approaches her work through a sense of curiosity and seeing beauty in the everyday. Once an idea is formulated, often triggered by the composition, she is fixated in translating what she sees through the medium of oil painting. Katie’s immediate brush strokes are informed from her passion of drawing, trying to confront the challenge of ever shifting realities of light and line. It is through this exploration that Katie investigates how these elements regard and communicate to the other to translate a sense of beauty in the everyday.
Katie holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from the National Art School, Sydney and a Diploma in Advance Art & Design at Box Hill TAFE, Melbourne.
She was a finalist at the Salon des Refusés at the S. H. Ervin Gallery in 2023 and 2024. She has exhibited in group shows in Sydney and collected across Australia.
