BK KU Biography

BK Ku moved to Australia in 2002 from South Korea after graduating from university in Busan, where he studied Visual Arts & Design.

He initially lived in Broken Hill for six years, where he began his career in painting, before moving to Sydney.

Throughout this time, he continued to explore his creativity, experimenting with new ideas, objects, and mediums. Eventually, he discovered the Blue Mountains, a region that inspired him to settle and further develop his artistic journey.

BK Ku's work is influenced by his Korean heritage. His primary medium is Hanji, a traditional Korean paper made from mulberry tree bark, which brings authenticity to his art.

His abstract landscapes are known for their boldness while also featuring subtle textures that showcase his distinctive style. Prominent motifs in his work include radiant depictions of the sun and the graceful lines of fish, adding depth and character to his creations.

“Through layering, sculpting, and handcrafting, I create artworks that bridge my Korean heritage with my Australian home. My work serves as a dialogue between tradition and environment, capturing the essence of memory, place, and the beauty of natural transformation.”
