Katie Sandison Biography

Passionate about raising awareness of Australia’s unique botanicas and bird life species, South Australian watercolour painter Katie Sandison loves to create artworks which connect to land through colourful splashes and illuminating compositions.

Her unique Australian fauna and fauna series was established in 2017 with the vision to capture purposeful documentation, to highlight the importance of vulnerable, common, and extinct species through vibrant complimentary colour pallets.

Her curated exhibitions have raised funds for many wildlife and environmental organisations with three art shows since 2021 at the Adelaide Airport.

An ECO BIO CUP artist since 2021, her Blue Wren couple have graced coffee houses around Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and are still being delivered. These are the most environmentally sustainable cups on the market.

Katie started her art journey at the age of 1 1/2 when she drew all over her Stirling home walls and her parents were still painting over the texta marks as they were selling the property.

She began her art education at Ruth Tuck Art School from the age of 7yrs and often spent time with the renowned water-colourist being a family friend. Ruth Tuck’s Impressionist and modernist style of painting has had an enormous influence on Katie as a professional artist and art teacher.

She attended Art Schools: North Adelaide School of Art receiving a Diploma of Applied Art, University of South Australia Underdale Visual Art Degree, a Bachelor of Education in 1999 and more recently short courses at Central School of Art. After teaching in secondary and Primary schools for over 22 years at the age of 48 she resigned and opened her art business Katie Sandison Fine Art from the Mitcham Studio and children’s art school Kids Art Adelaide.
