Amy Raymond describes her art style as “a dynamic abstraction of shape and colour”. From an early age, she has been drawn to all things creative. Her supportive parents encouraged her creativity and sent her to art classes, where she was able to spend time exploring different mediums and find her own way forward.
After completing an Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design, Amy set out into the world of advertising, eventually becoming a Senior Art Director after 10 years in the industry, before having a break from the ad world and joining the mum force.
While settling in to her life as a new mum, Amy continued to freelance, and then began painting with her 4 year old where she rediscovered her love for the medium.
“My art practice is inspired by nature in all of its unique forms, shapes, and colours. I have always loved the ocean and have been drawn to its enticing shades of blue, which provoke that desire to be wholly immersed in the water. Through my paintings, I aim to recreate that feeling of amazement at the beauty of the natural world, and to bring that colour and life to the canvas. I try to capture the energy and movement of the landscape through bold and expressive marks.
I paint mostly intuitively, often experimenting on the canvas using layering and texture to create something fresh and original every time. I use acrylics and ink as my primary mediums, playing with a number of illustration techniques to create an almost dreamlike watercolour effect, which is unique to my pieces.”
