About the Artists:

Bio-2-2

Lisa’s signature is large format impressionist and abstract paintings.  Lisa uses layers of paint, introducing glazes, gold leaf, and other materials to create depth and space within her unique pieces.  Lisa was recently named `one to watch` by Home Beautiful Magazine.

“I think it’s important to emphasise shape and movement so i experiment with how i put paint on the canvas.  I use pure colours, unmixed on the palette and I work very intuitively.”

Lisa studies nature’s energy, from seasonal changes to moon tides and symbolism of trees and flowers.  She also looks for the `space in between` that you can’t see, for example, refracted light.  “The changing weather and passing time of day influences my senses.  I associate colour combinations with different meanings and states of mind to create images that are alive, that breathe, that have a pulse/feeling/atmosphere.  I use that energy to trigger emotion, incorporating this into my paintings so they can change visually according to the time of the day and the light they are displayed in.  Viewers look at my work and see different things.  It is their own imagination creating the vision – it’s about what they see and they don’t need me to tell them… that’s when I know people really get it.  They interpret and enjoy the work – there are no rules or boundaries.”

Lisa’s large format works are arresting in their scale and beauty.  Her work is particularly successful in drawing the viewer into the space and story created on her canvases.  Rather than crowding the room in which they are placed, these paintings add another dimension of depth and warmth.

Lisa’s background includes professional studies in painting, visual arts, and graphic design.  Her style is born from a life shaped in Australasia’s wildest places.  These big landscapes are wide open, elemental, and scuffed through with the burnished colours of life outdoors.  Lisa works in her shared studio space in Newmarket, Brisbane.  She continues to submit works to selected shows and awards.
