News

Manyung Gallery is excited to to be exhibiting the work of Gavin Brown and Meredith Earls this month as part of 'Landscape Explorations.'

Gavin Brown was born in 1964 and raised in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne. In 1982 he moved to Inner Melbourne, living in Collingwood and studying a Bachelor of Arts, Fine Art program at R.M.I.T. During 1984 he completed a Post Graduate course in Fine Art (Painting). While studying at R.M.I.T., Gavin majored in print making, as well as painting. This saw him move into fashion and textile design between 1984 and 1988 with his inventive independent label, Plain Jane.
Since 2000 Gavin has focused solely on his painting and artistic career. At times he has collaborated with peers on their creative projects, most notably acclaimed director Adam Elliott and his feature claymation movie Mary and Max, creating background scenes for the entire movie. More recently Gavin contributed to Phillip Adam’s Balletlab production of Aviary, creating a striking 4 metre by 6 metre backdrop for the opening act of this contemporary dance piece. In 2009 the National Gallery of Victoria purchased an extensive catalogue of Gavin’s garments and printed fabric length to be archived in their permanent collection.

To date, Gavin has had over 25 solo and group exhibitions, has been collected by the Powerhouse (Sydney), Victoria & Albert (London) and NGV (Melbourne) and appeared in numerous publication. Some of his paintings live in London, Singapore, Hong Kong and New York. You can also see several of his large commissioned works at the Marina Bay Sands complex, recently completed in Singapore.

Meredith Earls originally trained as a graphic designer, and after a period of travel and change she has now created a new body of work which explores ideas of spaces – real and imagined, physical, intangible and the space between past and future. She uses a range of painting, mixed media and collage to create these fresh and surreal works.

Meredith has been published in the New York Art News, Yen Magazine, Honda Magazine and many others. Meredith has completed a Bachelor of Design Arts and figurative drawing and painting studies.

Gavin and Meredith will be on exhibition from 5 - 27 July, 2014 at Manyung Gallery Mt Eliza, 1408 Nepean Hwy, Mt Eliza
