International, award-winning artist arrives at Manyung
News

Portland (USA) based artist and photographer, Jim Kazanjian’s elusive images have arrived into the safe hands of Manyung Gallery.
Writer and fellow photographer, Chas Bowie describes Kazanjian’s work as wild and gloomy affairs, superficially recalling the brisk angularity of De Stijl abstraction.
The works are digitally manipulated composites. Arts writer, Alison Natasi describes the process as “hunting and gathering, sacrificing pieces and rescuing images from internet obscurity’.

‘I cobble together pieces from photos I find interesting….adding, subtracting and then gradually blending the various parts together’ says the artist.

An established CGI artist in television and game production, Kazanjian’s most recent series, is inspired by classic horror literature of H.P Lovecroft, Algernon Blackwood and similar authors.
With a Master in Fine Arts, Kazanjian is certainly paving the way for a new medium-specificity, based on photography but manipulated by one of the most utilised and highest rising mediums among contemporary art practice; digital manipulation.
I’ve chosen photography as a medium because of the cultural misunderstanding that it has a sort of built-in objectivity. This allows me to set up a visual tension within the work, to make it resonate and lure the viewer further inside. Recently, Kazanjian was the grand winner of the Lens Culture International Exposure Award, the International Fine Art Photography Award and received a Director’s Honorable Mention for ‘Illusion’ exhibition at the Centre of Fine Art Photography, Colorado.
