Biography:

French born, Guy Detot has lived in South Australia since 1982.

Although he has always had a strong affinity for sculpture, he is also a professional dancer and his work reveals a deep understanding of movement, rhythm, lyricism and the flow of nature.

The Australian influence in his work is clear; he uses as his sculptural medium red gum wood that dominates his South Australian home.

His work celebrates nude human forms and animal forms. With great intensity this sculptor throws himself into the task, literally working from dawn until dusk at his creations.

Guy is an intrinsically optimistic person and his optimism is reflected in his sculpture, he often uses splashes of gold leaf which can represent pain and emotion, and negative space is often used as a further evocation.
