Kerry Candarakis

Kerry Candarakis is a contemporary abstract expressionist artist based in southern Sydney.

As a contemporary artist she work with different mediums that include pastel, acrylic, oil, bark, bitumen, rust and wax, anything that she finds. Both in abstraction and reality Kerry aims to create an emotion or feeling with her work.

Her primary love is colour and its ability to have a psychological and physical response making your eyes move around the canvas.   She works in Series to delineate the different themes that she explores.

This body of work was created in response to my bright dynamic exploration of abstracted nature. Aiming to have a sense of recognition or engagement.

Experimentation is pivotal to my practice, with a variety of approaches from loose gestural broad marks to precise linear, graphic work.  This work has flourished and has evolved as it was created.  With each new work I tried to change my palette and explore the patterns and contours layering in both a literal and metaphorical sense.

The multiple layers of colour echo a residue that is ephemeral and helps to enhance the transitory narrative.    The patterning strives to vocalise the essence of place, to give it a sense of recognition without definitive situation. Movement and light is pivotal to my intention.

I am embracing the theme of ‘Odyssey’ and will continue to see where this takes my practice.
