"Born in Dublin 1961 I was one of eight children, arriving in Australia in 1967.
I have worked as a Boilermaker / Welder since I was 15 years old. It was another 22 years before I started to experiment with what I could do with steel outside the rigid structures of my trade. I found that being able to create something that came from an idea, liberating, enlightening and exciting.
I have always been drawn to objects and forms that possess symmetry and balance. These occur all around us in man made forms and the abundant diversity of our natural world. My work also is a balance, of the grace and beauty of traditional wrought iron work and the freedom of sculpting using anything that inspires me with its shape, colour, size and texture.
I find excitement in the quest to explore the depths of my imagination and satisfaction in my ability to bring my ideas to life." - Jim Boland
