About the Artists:

Born and raised on the Mornington Peninsula, Rose has been painting since 2000. Rose has painted under the guidance of Jeff Gilmour and more recently with mentor Terrence J Hadler (artist in residence of Manyung Gallery Mt Eliza). She is thrilled to have been selected to exhibit her work at the prestigious 2008 $50,000 Buller Art Prize in March 2008 & 2009, as well as in the ANL 2008 and 2009 Mission to Seafarers Art Prize.

Rose a (keen angler) feels privileged and blessed to call the Mornington Peninsula her home which is a constant source of inspiration to her as ‘the backyard from paradise’ However her subject matter ranges far and wide as she visits and is influenced by the contrasts of this country. Most admired artists are Boyd, Streeton, Turner as well as the more animate John Olsen, Tim Storrier, Jason Benjamin and Terrence Hadler.

Statement:

“To me, art is only ever the final result of a certain thought (and/or emotion) asking to be heard. Landscape is an integral part of us. More and more often I find the landscape acting as a metaphor for raw human emotion. Whether I am drawing power from my surroundings, or my surroundings are resonating my own vibrations (or vulnerabilities) I choose not to dwell upon. My most beloved locations breathe life into me and exude an empathy with the soul. It is seeing with the heart. Regardless of what initially draws me to a special place, the location becomes secondary to the relationship/correlation between it and myself. Our life experiences shade and colour our view of the world and how we perceive what is contained therein … it varies from one experience/mind to the other. But hopefully, through it all we can construct a language understood by many, no matter how many tongues it traverses. That is my inspiration, my fishing, my friends, my family, and my love take me there. (Thankyou my mentor Terrence Hadler, my family, to my dearest friends and my Rob)”
