Wendy Arnold was born in New Zealand. She arrived in Perth in 1971. Pursuing a career in art she studied for 3 years at the West Australian Institute of Technology, majoring in painting and printmaking. Extensive travel overseas finally brought her back to Sydney to do a postgraduate at Alexander Mackie (now named College of Fine Arts).
In 1981 Wendy co-created the prestigious fashion Label “Studibaker” with partners Janelle and David Miles. They were remembered for their flamboyant designs and luscious prints. Wendy left in 1995 to pursue her art.
Still existing today the buisness was recently sold, but operates under the same name, enduring 28 years. Currently some of Studibaker’s eveningwear can be viewed at the Power House Museum
Twelve years ago Wendy co created 1+2 Artist Studios, with Rogerio Banc Ramos, perhaps the largest art studio still existing in NSW, with 52 artists aboard. Two years ago they opened a sister studio with 36 artists space, as a foil to the previous perhaps being redeveloped for luxury flats.
She has exhibited continuously for the last 13 years, with her last four exhibitions at Rushcutters Bay Gallery selling out. There is a cult following growing for her work and word of an impending exhibition creates a theatre of its own.
Wendy’s artworks have featured in several publications, including Vogue Living, New Zealand House and Garden, CIAO Magazine, Premier Sydney Homes, as well as several newspapers around the country.
