Julee Latimer Biography

Latimer's current work questions the assumption that the right side of a painting is the part the artist looks at when painting it. She explores ways to show the viewer what is happening on the invisible side.  What is the paint up to when left to its own devices? This fascination with paint as a material informs her practice of creating original works on plastic as the result of controlled pours. "This enables the ultimate freedom to satisfy an innate urge to chop things up and put them back together again" (Latimer, 2016).

Born in the UK, Latimer's adult life has been a patchwork of cultures, the result of 12 overseas moves in 17 years. She settled in Melbourne in 2005.  During this time, she has pursued various art forms including many years as a mosaic artist. Her intricate sculptural works in glass have exhibited internationally, including a solo in New York. They are also the subject of her book 'Sculptural Secrets for mosaic' which is available on Amazon.

As a professional artist Latimer spends most of her days in her studio developing new techniques and discovering new ways in which to use paint in both her abstracts and her sculptural works.  In between these explorations she is studying for her degree in Fine Arts with a double major in Sculpture and Painting.
